2024 SDSMA Annual Leadership Conference

Poster Session



The South Dakota State Medical Association announces the Call for Abstracts for presentation at the 2024 SDSMA Annual Leadership Conference being held at the Holiday Inn Rapid City Downtown on May 31, 2024.

The committee welcomes submissions of abstracts from USD SSOM medical students. Early submission of abstracts is appreciated. The abstract may be from basic science or clinical research.

Submission: Abstracts must be submitted to Keith Hansen, MD, at keith.hansen@usd.edu and Elizabeth Reiss at ereiss@sdsma.org.

Submission deadline: March 8, 2024

Please prepare your submission in accordance with the requirements listed below:

  • Abstracts must be submitted in a Word document single spaced and no more than 300 words (not including title and authors’ names).
  • Abstracts should be proofread prior to submission. Abstract data cannot be altered after the submission. Title and authors may not be changed.
  • Abstracts must be original work and should not have been previously published.
  • The initial aspect of the abstract should contain the title and the author(s) name and respective site(s) of the study.
  • The text should be structured to describe the objective of the study and results of your work. It should include the following headings:
    • Introduction: a brief statement about the purpose of the study and the current state of research in the field.
    • Methods: the method(s) of study or data collection used.
    • Results: a summary of the study results including sufficient details to support your conclusions.
    • Conclusions: a statement explaining the significance of your work and the implications for further research.
  • In the title, please include the type of study: case report, retrospective cohort study, etc.
  • Case reports should be structured as Introduction, Case Report, and Conclusion.

Notification will occur by March 30, 2024 for abstracts accepted for poster presentation at the SDSMA Annual Leadership Conference. One author must attend the conference on May 31, 2024 and present their poster.

The accepted abstracts will be published in the annual conference program which will be a supplement of South Dakota Medicine. These abstracts will then be available in PubMed.

The accepted abstracts also will be submitted to a panel of judges for evaluation. One abstract will be selected for an oral presentation of their work at the conference.
